Aerodynamics

While the Prius maintains is distinguishable look, its exterior has taken a few changes to reduce its coefficient of drag to remain one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the road at 0.25 cD.  Some say that the Prius looks sportier with its bolder grill and confident beltline.  The taillights, while striking in their own rights, provide additional aerodynamic benefits.

Body Design

The Gen III Prius has special "Aero Corners" designed to allow air to flow around the front and rear of the car more efficiently.
The windshield of the Gen II has been sloped back slightly to allow air to "spill over" onto the side more smoothly.

The new tail light keeps the airflow in a uniform path along with the rear "Aero corner."  Together they maintain a smooth transition from the side of the car to the rear.
The spoiler has been extended.  This is similar to the "Touring" model of the Gen II Prius.  This keeps the air moving backward longer.

Undercarriage

The undercarriage has been covered with aerodynamic covers to maintain a smooth flow under the car.  These covers ensure that the air will not encounter turbulence from all the mechanics commonly found under a car.

This image shows the airflow from under a Gen III Prius.  You can see that the airflow maintains a nice straight path from front to rear.  Upon exiting the car, the air quickly returns to its initial "shape."
